CHALLENGE
Train stations in the rainy Pacific Northwest can be monotonous, dreary, and stressful for travelers. Artwork should resonate with the diverse community of Kent, a city with deep agricultural roots.
CONCEPT
By magnifying pollen to a heroic scale, viewers can revel in the intricate beauty of these oft-maligned spores. Commuters are invited to consider their quiet labor—sustaining biodiverse ecosystems, producing oxygen, and supporting food systems.
"Pollination" is in harmonious dialogue with a companion piece, "Gather", which celebrates the edible plants found in Coast Salish and immigrant foodways.
