I am on temporary hiatus from this project. Maleng 5 is a graphic memoir that investigates the relationship between two people who have different types of bipolar disorder. It's illustrated to show both perspectives, one real and one delusional, during the acute psychotic break of my former partner and the slow years of recovery after his hospitalization. This story looks at bipolar disorder as a diverse spectrum and validates the trauma of both patient and caregiver while acknowledging how those roles have to be adaptable when both partners live in mercurial states of mental health. Here are some initial drawings and sketches for this project.
